New Year Resolutions

New Year Revolution

You’ve seen that commercial, right? Please say yes. If not, you have to watch. Even if you’ve seen it, I know you want to watch it again.

These are some of my favorite commercials because they’re all so natural and just. so. cute.

Last year, Cory set goals for the year rather than resolutions and it worked out pretty well for him. He’s written down his goals for 2014 and I thought I would share my goals for the year.

Floss every day.

For 2013, one of my resolutions was to take better care of my skin and teeth. I’m embarrassed to say that I don’t floss every day {or wash my face every night} and I did really well for the first six months of 2013. So, my first goal of 2014 is to floss every day.

Read my Bible cover to cover.

Life in the Sloan house is so busy that we are often guilty of skipping spending time in God’s word. Funny thing is we always have time to scroll through Instagram or check Facebook. I’ve got an app on my phone that has a plan you can set up to read your whole Bible in year and I plan to start today. The purpose of the goal is not to say that I’ve done it but a way to hold myself accountable for spending more time in the Word.

Pray more.

I don’t think this needs much explanation. Just like time spent in the Word, my prayer time suffers when I’m too busy. Cory and I have a lot of big things going on in 2014 and more prayer will be a must.

Go to Rwanda.

You may recall that this past summer, Cory traveled to Rwanda with non profit organization called Barnabas X. Nick, the founder, has stepped down and handed the reigns over to Cory so we will be planning and organizing a trip back to Rwanda. I’m very anxious and honestly a little nervous about Cory and I planning the trip since I have never been on an international mission trip and 2013 was Cory’s first year. {Insert previous goal} Lord willing, I will be going with Cory this year.

Set a “game plan” for my blog and stick to it.

I’ve really enjoyed blogging for the past six months and very excited about what I can do with it in 2014. After the holidays, I’ve realized how important it is to be organized and plan ahead with my post. Cory and I stay so busy during the week of Christmas and most of the holiday, we aren’t at home. I’ve gotten behind and wondering how so many bloggers already have their Christmas recaps and 2013 in reviews us. I think having a game plan for my blog and the steps required for it to go where I want it, will be important a necessity to be able to work full time and blog.

I’m also very excited to announce that I’m almost ready to reveal my new design. Back in October, I made the decision to switch to WordPress and the design is done but I’m still making a few tweeks to my pages. I know a professional design will be a huge part of my success in blogging during 2014.

Complete baby step #3.

Cory and I have are on baby step #3 on our journey to financial freedom, which is to build up an emergency fund that would cover 3-6 months in expenses. We’ve been on this step since February and it’s kinda been slow going. Hopefully by the end of 2014, we will have our emergency fund built up to the level we feel confident in.

So, there you have my goals for the upcoming year. I feel like the goals {and number of goals} I’ve set are realistic and I’m hoping that documenting my goals will hold me accountable and help me meet them. I guess we’ll see at the end of the year!
