Sloan Kitchen Challenge | Progress
When we left off, almost two weeks ago, our kitchen looked like this. And a lot of work has been done in those two weeks.
Just a little bit of the mess we worked in the first weekend.
We got the linoleum out of the kitchen and the ceiling primed the first weekend.
The whole next week was spent repairing and painting the ceiling. We had many late nights trying to get finished up before going to Atlanta last Saturday.
On Wednesday, we got our new roof. The roofers were so quick, they were in and out in a day. Goodbye ugly, brown roof!
Last Monday, we finished packing up the house, getting all the furniture moved out and ready to go to my parents for the week and I had the most genius idea on how to pack up my closet.
The last thing I wanted to do was box or bag up all my clothes or even take them off the hangers but we were out of room in our storage pod that’s been sitting in my backyard for the past three weeks. Our extra building, shop and garage are pretty much full as well. How in the world have we accumulated so much stuff??
Once I remembered they wouldn’t be touching the bathrooms, I packed my whole closet up in like 3 minutes.
We’ve still got to patch the hole from our old drain pipe but we are waiting until we have some extra sheet rock.
We said goodbye to our little casa and the Bumpuses moved in with my parents for the week.
On Tuesday, they patched the floor.
And on Thursday, they had all the floors sanded and we picked out the stain.
For a brief second, I considered leaving it natural because it just made the house seem so big.
I quickly changed my mind when I remembered my love affair with a dark floor. We chose the darkest one, on the left, and if I hear one more person tell me “it will show everything”, I may just scream. It’s already picked out, on the floors and it’s exactly what I wanted!
We’ve come a long way over the past three weeks but in reality, we are just beginning!

oh how exciting!
and honestly – any wood floor will show everything so who cares! lol. whether its light or dark (or carpet) you still have to clean it! i love our floors, they’re dark and they show everything (but i have a white cat, so….) but i wouldn’t change it! love the idea of putting your closet in the bathroom lol

Light wood shows everything too – all floors do – so don’t worry about it – I LOVEEEEE dark wood floors – its so dramatic!

Eeek, it’s looking so good!
Major props to you and Cory on that ceiling, ceilings are no joke. When you paint a ceiling you discover muscles you never knew existed.
And as far as people saying stuff about your awesome dark floors:
In the words of the great Taylor Swift, “Haters gonna hate, hate, hate… hate”
It’s gonna look awesome, can’t wait to see it when y’all are done!
