Five on Friday
Whew…what a week! It’s been an incredibly busy one but so productive for the Sloans. We’ve had appointments for the cabinets, flooring, roofing and with a painter {for the outside}. Things got real this week, y’all…we are actually renovating our house! And I may lose my sanity.
ONE | I want to wish a very happy birthday to my sweet, sweet mama. We’ve always been incredibly close, even at the times in life where children are supposed to despise their parents. She has been my biggest cheerleader, truest friend and an incredible role model on how to be a Godly wife and mother.
TWO | This past week has taught me that I could never build a house. So many decisions! I finally decided on exactly what I want for our kitchen…antique white, raised panel, full overlay but why are cabinets so dang expensive?? You better believe those don’t exist in our price range. I’m stressin bad over these cabinets, y’all. Do I settle for something I don’t love or just invest a little more into ones I do?
THREE | I don’t often talk about my extended family beyond wishing them happy birthday on here and I debated even sharing this but it’s been a big part of my life. After 31 years, my family’s independent grocery store closed its doors last Saturday. Even though I haven’t worked there since college, it still feels like a piece of me is shutting down. It’s the place I grew up, my entire families livelihood and where I learned the value of a job.
There are so many married couples who met at that store, including Cory and I {at one point we counted over 30}. Countless kids worked there to get through high school and college, and were counseled by my dad and the other men and women who worked there on the biggest decisions of their lives. Families who didn’t know where their next meal would come from could go to that store and know they could get groceries. It was a symbol of generosity and integrity for the dying downtown and I’m proud that it was my family that made it that way.
We are steadfast in our prayers that it will sell but so far, we haven’t had any serious inquiries . We have faith, though, that God has a plan in all this and will use my family and the store in a mighty way.
FOUR | Is this real life??? In case you missed my dresser makeover, you can see it here.
FIVE | I’m heading to the beach tomorrow for a girls weekend! Excited would be the understatement of the year. The last time Jessica and I took a trip together was my senior year of college, pre-husbands and baby, so I’m in desperate need of some time with my bestie to just get caught up and away from all the craziness of everyday life!
I know this post seems jumbled and random but that is just par to the course for our lives this past week but we are renovating our house! I have to keep telling myself that! EEEK! Any suggestions on how to keep my sanity the next couple weeks would be greatly appreciated :)
I’m linking up with all kinds of fun ladies today {darci, karli, amanda, tif, andrea} and you should too!
