Our First Marriage Retreat
Man, the past couple of weeks have been absolutely crazy. I promise this will be the last conference/retreat that I blog about for awhile. Judging from the past couple weeks it would appear that all Cory and I do is attend church conferences but I promise we do other things too. It just so happened that three out of the four planned for the year were back to back to back. So without further ado, this past weekend my parents, Cory, and I headed to Pigeon Forge to attend a marriage retreat put on by their church. I bet ya can’t guess what the theme was.
I’m sure the beards gave it away but the theme for the weekend was Duck Dynasty and Friday night everybody dressed up in their best Duck Dynasty attire for dinner and the first session. I love the Willie and Phil beards we found for Cory and my dad. I really should have gotten pictures of other peoples costumes because there were some really good ones. I promise you, one guy could have passed for Uncle Si’s twin brother.
I was going for the more “stylish” look that Korie {Willie’s wife} is always rockin but it was really just a great excuse to buy myself some camo pants that I’ve been wanting so badly.
I think my dad actually resembles Phil but maybe it’s just the beard.
Mom and I had to get in on the beard action which was a really bad idea after just putting on lip gloss. I was picking hair out of my mouth for the rest of the evening.
I loved the centerpieces. Mrs. Glenda did such a wonderful job planning the whole weekend, especially all the decorations.
They wanted to reenact the Corona commercial {which is pretty funny if you know my parents} but the chairs were wet. You can’t really tell Dad is squatting but Mom’s no where near the chair!
Aren’t they just adorable? Just love the time we got to spend with them.
My favorite boy!
So a few of my favorites from the weekend:
1. On Thursday night there was a meet and greet with these cute cupcakes that where topped off with rubber duckies. {Mrs. Glenda went all out with the duck theme!} In true Lunsford fashion, my dad and I grabbed a cupcake, pulled the duck off, and licked the bottom. Seems normal, right? Well the ducks had this awful chemical taste and at about the same time my dad and I had these awful looks on our faces. While my mom was busy laughing at us, I said “I need something to drink, my tongue is burning” which just made her and Cory crack up even more. As we were leaving and still laughing about it, my dad asked what the moral of this story was: we determined it to be “never lick a duck’s butt”.
2. We heard from a couple that has been married for many years and she referred to arguing as “intense fellowship”. I may have to steal that one!
3. Friday morning we headed to a flea market where Cory likes to stock up on action figures. Have I ever shared my husbands nerdy childhood collection of action figures? He even has started a pretty decent trading business on Instagram. It makes my giggle to see him so excited about his finds.
4. Friday night a man and his wife were dressed up as Uncle Si and his “cup of tea”. How clever is that?!?!
5. Gracie was with my Papa and Barbara in Asheville, so when we left Pigeon Forge on Saturday we headed back to their house to spend the night and we went to church with them on Sunday before heading home.
On the way to church Sunday morning, Willie joined us in the back seat.
And five minutes into the ride home, this is what we found. Papa and Barbara wore her out but I think we all felt this way after a great weekend with a lot of laughs, some awesome testimonies and WAY too much food!
I’m linking up today with Katie, Mia, Carly and Kristal to share how thankful I am for such wonderful parents who have always been an awesome example of what a marriage is supposed to be and for a wonderful weekend away with them and my sweet husband.

Aww, that really sounds like a fun experience and a creative theme for the whole event! And I’ve heard my Mom use the “Intense Fellowship” term when it comes to arguing. :P
