Fall Front Porch

Well, it’s more like fall front steps but that just doesn’t sound as good as fall front porch, does it? Maybe one day I’ll have a big front porch and really be able to decorate with lots of pumpkins, rocking chairs and a swing.

Until then I’ll take full advantage of what I’ve got and since it’s not much, and can get kinda tricky, I use the trusty ‘ole motto of “keep it simple, stupid” and stick with the basics of hay bales, pumpkins and mums.

I opted out of decorating for Halloween like I did last year but mostly because my Halloween wreath faded and I didn’t have time to make another one.

Since my Halloween pumpkin topiary from last year didn’t match my fall decor, I decided to borrow Christina’s idea and paint our house number on a pumpkin from Michael’s. I was in a hurry and used a sharpie instead of paint but it doesn’t look near as crisp as Christina’s so I’ll probably go back over it with paint.

I’m pretty impressed with the way my owl wreath held up from last year {and glad it did because I didn’t want to make another one!} even though it faded just a little, it still works perfectly for my fall front porch.

Last year, I searched everywhere for mums that came in something more decorative than a plastic pot but didn’t have any luck. I felt like I had struck gold when I found these mums because they’re the perfect size, they’re in wooden baskets and they were only $10 a piece at Lowe’s.

I absolutely adore this time of year, as well as decorating our house, so it makes my heart so happy to see my fall front porch all decked out in fall goodness. This year, by far, is my favorite way I’ve decorated the steps so I think I’ll stick with the hay bales, pumpkins and mums!
