Why Cory and I didn’t buy Clemson football season tickets.
With college football season upon us {it starts tonight!}, I wanted to explain why Cory and I didn’t buy Clemson football season tickets this year.
For the first time since we graduated, we won’t be spending every Saturday tailgating with Cory’s family or be in our awesome seats to watch the Tigers rub the rock and run down the hill. We won’t get to hear the cannons fire off when the Tigers score or do the slow wave with 80,000 closest friends.
It may sound stupid to some, but this wasn’t an easy decision for me. I love Clemson football. I love devoting our entire Saturday weekend to this game {because it’s definitely a weekend affair}. I love our routine of getting the food prepped on Friday night and the truck loaded up at the crack of dawn on Saturday morning and stopping to fill the coolers up on the way to meet Cory’s family.
But Cory felt differently after getting back from Rwanda last year. Not that he doesn’t love Clemson football just as much as I do, but he had a change of heart about the money and time we have invested into a game. After a lot of prayer, a couple fights and trusting in Cory’s decision, we decided to forgo renewing our tickets. When we made this decision back in February, our trip was still planned for July but it amazes me to see God in such a miniscule decision as season tickets since our trip now takes place during the season.
While it will be nice to have more time at home {I’m thinking wreaths, decorating the house and puppy snuggles!} and less time outside in 100 degree weather, it was still a really hard decision and one that I’m not 100 % positive was the right one. I do believe that God is testing us to see if we are willing to sacrifice in order to serve him better and preparing us for a lifestyle that is completely different than the one we currently live. I like our lifestyle and I’m not a fan of change so this is all very scary to me but isn’t that what faith is? Learning to step outside of our comfortable lifestyle and trust God’s plan for us?
As much as I love Clemson football, I’m excited to see the journey God takes us on. Not just in Rwanda but when we return back to our “normal” life. Also, I must mention that while we didn’t purchase season tickets, we will still be attending some games {it was part of my deal} and the rest will be watched from the comfort of my couch :)

It was! And he very rarely express his opinion on anything. I really do get to do whatever I like and he goes along with it so when he put his foot down, I knew he meant business!

Oh, I think God is going to bless you for every sacrifice you make

I know sacrificing season tickets is a far cry from what others do but you gotta start somewhere!

it was the right choice for you both at this time – it’s not to say you wont have season tickets again!!

That’s what I keep telling myself and hopefully after I get back from Rwanda, I will see it the same way he does.

Y’all are awesome! :)
I believe the change in dates has a lot of reasons that I’m just now noticing. Like jarrod going with y’all and I’m going to have to “let go and let god” it’s crazy how things work out. ♡

It was cool to hear this story of giving up something good in the the name of pursuing something greater–it’s always worth it, even if it doesn’t feel like it.

I’m sure that was a hard decision for you to make, but Cory does have a point. I’m glad y’all were able to compromise though and I personally can’t wait to see what projects you’ll be getting into. :)
