Tybee Island 2018 part 1

A few weeks ago, my parents decided to head down to Tybee Island to spend a few days with my grandparents, who were spending the week down there. They found an Airbnb and had an extra bedroom, so Baker and I crashed their beach trip. Cory couldn’t get the time off from work since he will be out for two weeks in July for Rwanda, and we missed him like crazy, but enjoyed a chance to get a short vacation in this summer.

I had intended to keep this beach recap to one post but then I realized I took almost 300 photos in the four days we were there so I figured it would be best to divide it up. When your baby is just so darn cute in a bathing suit, you can’t help but click all the photos.

We headed out early on Tuesday morning, packing my car and the cargo carrier on top. Baker did well for most of the ride but got sleepy and fought a nap hard for about 45 minutes. I’m pretty sure my dad was wishing he was in a separate car because she screamed until she finally gave it up.

We made it to the island around lunch time and our house wasn’t ready yet, so we headed to where my grandparents were staying, changed into our swimsuits, and hit the beach. These little redneck girls packed their flip-flops in the cargo carrier so they had to wear tennis shoes to the beach.

Baker just dug right in to the sand! My grandparents were staying on the river so the water was very calm. Baker didn’t seem to mind the water whatsoever and walked right in with Gracie. While we were on the beach, we saw a few pods of dolphins swimming by, which is one of the perks of being on the river.

We only got about an hour at the beach before a storm ran us off the beach. We stuck it out through the rain but when we saw lightening, we packed it up. Our house still wasn’t ready, so we headed to the Sugar Shack for ice cream.

Right as we were finishing our ice cream, we got a call that our house was ready. We unloaded all our stuff and Mom and Dad headed to the grocery store before dinner. Vacations with my parents (and it’s passed down to Cory and me too) are very low key- we typically will only go out to eat one night. We are not the “go, go, go” type people and truly do enjoy relaxing on our vacations.

Wednesday morning, we loaded up the car (we weren’t on the beach) and drove to the public beach access.

Like the day before, Baker immediately took to her beach toys and playing in the sand.

She was all about just filling her buckets with sand.

For some reason, Baker got really fussy after about an hour on the beach. We couldn’t get her calmed down so my mom and I started walking and she almost fell asleep on my shoulder. When I would turn around to start walking back to my chair, she would get upset and say “go back”. We eventually distracted her with picking up and throwing down seashells and we were able to get back to our chairs. After that, she was good to go!

Why does she have to look so big??

We attempted to take her in the water a few times but she wasn’t crazy about the waves. Baker is not an adventurous child at all and would say “I got choo” over and over again (that’s what I was saying to her).

However, as the tide went out, a little pool formed and it was perfect for her to play in!

But I think her most favorite part about the beach was the snacks! #metoogirl

Baker absolutely adores Gracie. I love watching her look up to Gracie.

Gracie is also awesome with Baker. She has been such a huge help for me this summer.

I could literally do this all day, every day. Is there anything better than sitting on the beach and your baby wanting to be near you??

She’s just so stinkin’ beautiful. Sometimes, I can’t believe she’s really mine.

My grandparents had scheduled a dolphin tour for my sister and niece so we headed back to the house for lunch and for them to get ready. While they were on the tour, we headed to my grandparents’ place and Mom and I hit the pool while Dad napped with Baker in their condo. When this nasty storm rolled in, we headed in to wait on the girls to get back.

They wanted to swim when they got back so we headed down to the pool.

It was a little chilly since it was still drizzling but before we left, Baker was getting used to it and “swimming” back and forth between my mom and me. She still didn’t let us let her go but was already picking up on kicking her feet.

This was the view out of the back of our house!

Honestly, the whole trip, Baker was fussy off and on. I’m not sure if she was (still is) teething or if it’s her age or if it was the fact that she missed her daddy, but she was just more whiny than normal. After dinner, we needed to make a run for aloe and this mama needed a little break so my mom, Gracie, and I left Taylor and Baker with Boo (my dad) and went for aloe. Even though my parents were huge helps, it’s just not the same without your spouse. All the praise hands to you single parents out there ‘cause I needed a break after two days!

But on the way, we saw the most beautiful sunset and I was reminded just how much I love Tybee Island.

We only had one more day on the island but we made the absolute best of it. Check back later this week for part 2 of our Tybee Island vacation and the absolute cutest pictures of Baker at sunset.

She just has the cutest little bathing suit collection :)
I love you actually RELAX on vacation. That’s the point, but so many people are RUSH RUSH RUSH – defeats the point.
You know I love that little ponytail :)
